The Angel Group Symposium is an exclusive event bringing leading angel groups and angels together to discuss practical steps for launching and growing a successful angel group. From different group structures and principles behind leading a group to professionalising and forming a fund, this investor-only event is one to mark in the diary.  

Delivered in partnership with SETsquared, this event seeks to support angel groups and angels seeking to form a new group.

Roderick Beer, MD of the UKBAA will kick off the afternoon with an update on the UKBAA and our latest initiatives as well as talk us through the results of the angel group survey.

2:15pm – 2:35pm Welcome from SETsquared  

Working in partnership with the UKBAA, SETsquared will share their plans for supporting angel groups in the UK alongside streamlined access to Innovate UK’s Future Economy Fund grants.

2:35pm – 3:15pm Panel: Shining the spotlight on UK angel groups

Angel groups range in size, structure and sector focus, all of which come together to form a very important part of the early-stage investment space. This panel discussion will welcome a host of leading angel groups from across the UK to share their origin story, perspectives on what works and current outlook on the year ahead.

3:15pm – 3:30pm Talk: Professionalising Angel Investment with an SPV 

Your angel group has found a great deal, completed due diligence and is now ready to cut a cheque, but with multiple angels in the round, how do you simplify this process? This session will explore how through an SPV, angel groups can level up their investment process and simplify the steps to closing.

This fireside chat will explore the road to forming an angel group and potential pitfalls you should avoid along the way. Tapping into everything from the focus of the group to the structure as well as increasing deal flow and managing admin, this chat will cover common considerations that should be made when forming a group.

4:15pm – 4:45pm  Talk: Latest changes to FCA financial promotion rules

This session will take you through the latest changes to the FCA financial promotion rules, how they can affect your group and what further changes are expected to follow as regards the HNWI and sophisticated investor exemptions.

4:45pm – 5:00pm Talk: An update on the Regional Angels Programme

Mark Barry will share the latest news on British Business Investments key funding programme for angel groups: The Regional Angels Programme.

5:00pm – 5:40pm Panel: Forming a thesis-driven angel group

There is a growing trend of angel groups being established in the UK that have a sector-specific, thesis-driven, or mission-led approach. Using investment to build communities and solve issues like climate change or barriers to investment, or spotlighting a specific sector, can create a meaningful impact whilst still driving strong investor returns. In this panel discussion, we’ll explore the benefits and challenges of forming and thesis driven angel group.
