Whilst the pandemic caused unparalleled disruption to the education sector, it has also greatly accelerated its adoption of technology. With the VR for education market alone predicted to be worth $700m globally by 2025, a tremendous opportunity is opening up for businesses developing technology that facilitates the digital classroom. With this in mind, the next Mayor of London’s TechInvest event will celebrate technologies tailored specifically for education’s new needs by shining a spotlight those that the forefront of this exciting, ever-changing space.

If you’re a founder developing a relevant product – whether it’s software or hardware, or relates to enhancing a digital learning environment, a platform for educators to connect, relevant marketplaces, gamification, or blockchain applications – and are seeking between £250k – £3m, we want to hear from you.

Meganne Houghton-Berry – NED, Mentor and Angel Investor

Meganne Houghton-Berry is an active angel investor, board director and start-up mentor and was the UK Business Angel Association Angel 2017/2018.   She has over 25 years’ experience in tech and consumer marketing and now invests across a wide range of industry sectors.  She has a portfolio of over 25 companies in a wide range of industries from waterless toilets to on-demand staffing, online tutoring to craft brewery.  Meganne has been profiled in a number of UK media for her work in social impact investing.  She is a non-Executive Director and Board Advisor at a number of portfolio companies and an active member of several US and UK based angel networks.

Dr. Melody Lang – Chief Strategy Officer – Mindstone, Advisor & Investor

Dr Melody Lang is Founder & CEO @ MPA Education, an advisory and investment company dedicated to the Future of Learning & Work. Melody is also Co-Founder @ Mindstone, a Learning Platform that provides anyone, anywhere in the world with the tools, confidence and motivation to take ownership of their own learning. Before establishing MPA, Melody was CEO @ edvinca, an EdTech investment company, and Director of Partnerships & Implementations @ Knewton, the world’s leading adaptive learning technology provider. She was Knewton’s first international employee when the London office was opened in 2013, overseeing a growing number of partnerships with major European publishers. She started her career as an engineer and research scientist, in marine engineering and later in the aerospace industry at QinetiQ. Melody holds a Master’s Degree in Mathematics with Honours from UPMC Paris VI and an Engineering Doctorate from Imperial College London.

Arnold du Toit – Entrepreneur In Residence, Pearson College London / Director Corporate Development, True Altitude

Entrepreneur In Residence at Pearson College and Director of Corporate Development at True Altitude. Arnold leads the Slingshot arm of True Altitude, advising accelerator cohorts and playing a pivotal role in the development of high potential start-ups. An entrepreneur himself, Arnold leverages his extensive experience in D2C, B2B Hardware and Data-Driven Technology Platforms, Mobility as a Service, Last Mile EV and the Luxury Sector to help innovative businesses to reach the next stage of their growth.

David Jenkins – Angel Investor

David founded and recently sold GradConnection to SEEK Limited. David and his co-founders ran GradConnection for over a decade. David has deep experience in building online market places and scaling Saas. David is now an angel investor, with investments in hardware, software, AI, robotics, property, crypto, B2B and B2C tech startups.

Manish Miglani – Investment Director, Nesta

Manish is an Investment Director in Nesta’s Impact Investment Team, working across sectors but especially focused on Education and Healthcare. He also leads Nesta’s Healthy Ageing investment partnership with UKRI. Manish is responsible for Nesta’s investments in Sumdog, Empiribox, and MEL Science, and has also led various portfolio investments to exits including Futuregov, Q Doctor, BeApplied, Digital Assess, and Synopsis Healthcare.

Prior to joining Nesta in 2015, Manish has been involved in venture capital and private equity for more than a decade, both as an investor and a consultant. He has previously worked at Sovereign Capital and Terra Firma Capital Partners. Manish started his career as a marketing manager at Colgate Palmolive followed by strategy consulting at Accenture.
