UKBAA Angel of the Year 2019 recipient Sunil Shah discusses the impact of his win
Sunil Shah, the CEO of o2h, was the joint winner of the Angel of the Year award at the 2019 UKBAA Angel Investment Awards.
A prolific angel investor, Sunil says he was surprised by his win but that he’s really felt the impact of taking home the award.
“I think it opens the door. When you go into a group of people who maybe don’t recognise what you’ve done in the past, or know your other achievements, to go in and be introduced as UKBAA Angel of the Year does create that impact. People then do listen to you and it allows you to actually champion your causes.”
Nominations for this year’s awards, which takes place on 8th June, are open now and Sunil offers some helpful advice for those thinking of submitting nominations.
“It’s not just about how much return you’ve made in your investments, that’s just one of several criteria that they look at. They look at a broader range of current criteria; things like job creation, engagement with your startups, diversity issues around women in science and particularly women investing. If you’re thinking of applying, or being nominated, then these are the broader strengths the UKBAA look for in their Angel of the Year.”
