Scottish Co-Investment Fund (SCF or the Fund) – Call for new accredited Partners

Talented people, access to markets and a supportive business environment make Scotland an attractive place to grow your business. Shouldn’t you be investing here? #ScotlandIsNow

Investment is central to driving long-term, sustainable and inclusive growth and Scottish Enterprise, through its investment arm the Scottish Investment Bank, has a strong track record in the delivery of innovative co-investment funds that address gaps in the early stage risk capital market.

One of these funds, the Scottish Co-Investment Fund, was the first public sector equity co-investment fund and to 31 March 2017, the Fund (backed by the European Regional Development Fund) invested £129m into Scotland’s fastest growing companies alongside £250m from private sector investors.

Scottish Enterprise recently approved the re-capitalisation of the SCF and is now inviting new private sector investors to apply to become Accredited Partners of the Fund.

The Fund will co-invest alongside a range of private sector UK based and international investors, including business angels, angel syndicates, venture capital fund managers and corporate investors, who have a proven track record and appetite to co-invest alongside the Scottish Investment Bank in Scottish investment opportunities in deal sizes ranging from £20,000 to £10,000,000. Accredited Partners will find investment opportunities, undertake appropriate due diligence, negotiate the terms of the deal and be willing to invest their own funds into companies – provided the investment meets the Fund’s criteria, the SCF co-invests directly into the opportunity on equal terms.

The deadline for the first round of applications is Tuesday 31st July 2018 and these will be assessed on a priority basis, following which we will continue to welcome new applications.

Are you aware of two other funding initiatives available for Scottish companies this year?

Scottish-European Growth Co-Investment Programme

This £200m programme is aimed at growth and export potential companies looking for larger levels of equity investment (typically above £2 million). It provides funding from Scottish Enterprise (via Scottish Government’s Scottish Growth Scheme) and European Investment Fund to match a wider range ofEuropean Investment Fund accredited fund managers.

Energy Investment Fund

The Energy Investment Fund (‘EIF’) is a Scottish Government Fund managed and delivered by the Scottish Investment Bank. It builds on the success of the Renewable Energy Investment Fund, providing commercial investment for renewable and low carbon energy solutions.

EIF will provide flexible investment and debt funding for energy projects in Scotland that will facilitate, catalyse and accelerate Scotland’s transition to a low carbon economy.
