Lord Hill Opens the Capital Markets Union

Lord Hill EU Commissioner for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union, opened the London Financial markets today to mark the launch of the flagship Capital Markets Union Action Plan.

In his speech Lord Hill emphasised the importance of a strong and connected financial environment for SMEs in Europe, with the focus on access to risk capital and away from dependence on bank finance. He noted the importance of strengthening the VC market across Europe and specifically recognised the importance of angel finance together with alternative finance sources.

He acknowledged that his own company had benefitted from accessing angel finance to support the growth of his own business nearly 20 years ago and how important this capital had been to the enterprise at that time.
