The Isle of Man Government Award for Best Equity Crowdfunded-Angel Investment 2015: Lightpoint Medical
Lightpoint Medical wins the UKBAA Award for the ‘Best Equity Crowdfunded & Angel Investment 2015’ at the UK Business Angels Association Awards.
The UKBAA Awards celebrate the entrepreneurs and investors behind the UK’s most exciting high growth angel-backed businesses.
The Best Equity Crowdfunded-Angel Investment Award sponsored byIsle of Man Government seeks to identify investments demonstrating the added value of crowdfunding and angel finance to address the funding and growth needs of the business.
The win was announced by Kiki Loizou, Small Business Editor of the Sunday Times at the Tower of London Pavilion on July 1st at the UKBAA Awards Dinner 2015.
Lightpoint Medicalhas developed a new medical imaging technology for cancer. The device provides real-time results during surgery and thus reduces the need for returns to the operating room. The optical imaging helps surgeons to remove cancerous tissue during surgery. Cancer is frequently left behind during surgery today as it is quite difficult to detect. The “EnLight” device can scan and detect residual cancer. Lightpoint is currently undergoing clinical trials for breast, prostate and stomach cancer.
The Judges felt that Lightpoint Medical demonstrated a capacity to draw together a range of funding including R&D grants, VC and 4 active angel groups . The crowdfunding round led by SyndicateRoomattracted some very experienced investors from the medical profession who are able to bring extensive experience of the sector and market to support the company’s growth going forward.
The company’s technology is expected to be available to both European and US markets during the following year.

The judges also wanted to commend JustPark the largest provider of pre bookable parking and which raised a spectacular £3.5 million through Crowdcube including investment from its own member base.
