Exit of the Year 2015: Zoopla

The UK’s second largest property listing website Zoopla wins the UKBAA Award for Best Exit of 2015 at the UK Business Angels Association Awards.

The UKBAA Awards celebrate the founders and investors behind the UK’s most exciting high growth angel-backed businesses.

The Best Exit of 2015 sponsored byBarclaysis aimed atindividual angel investors, syndicates or networks, or other funding sources, or relevant new enabling models, as well as angel-backed businesses.

The liquidity or exit can have been achieved in any way (e.g. Next stage funding, trade sale, MBO, Secondary Markets, AIM or IPO). The nomination must show that the deal resulted in the achievement of full or partial liquidity for the angel investors and a successful outcome for the angels and angel- backed business.

Zoopla‘s win was announced byKiki Loizou, Small Business Editor of the Sunday Timesat the Tower of London Pavilion on July 1st at the UKBAA Awards Dinner 2015.

The 4 Finalists Were:

Audioboom, nominated by London Business Angels

King Digital Entertainment,nominated by King Digital

Redx Pharma,nominated by Acceleris Capital

Zoopla, nominated by Just Investing

The judges felt that all of the four finalists are to be commended for offering significant opportunities for returns to the angel investors and other investors. All of the businesses have gone to public listing rather than trade sale, reflecting the role of angels and private investors in supporting long term growth of businesses.

“The Judges selected Zoopla as an example of a business backed by a strong serial entrepreneur, having previously co-founded and successfully exited Lovefilm, Alex Chesterman has grown the business to be the second largest property web-site in the UK. Through its floatation on the London Stock Exchange it has brought strong results for both the individual highly experienced angels who backed the business through early seed stages alongside Corporate investors and private investors through Octopus VCT and EIS Funds.”
