Investing in Trade Tech

The Institute of Export & International Trade and UKBAA‘s partnership, formed in 2021, spotlights high-growth potential entrepreneurs who are fusing technology with international trade. This partnership programme features an annual pitching showcase that enables TradeTech innovators to pitch their investment opportunity to angel and early stage investors from across the UK. Our goal with this programme is to connect ground-breaking UK-based, start-ups and scale-ups who ares leveraging the power of technology to digitise export and international trade with UKBAA’s angel and early-stage investment community.

Our 2021 showcase

On Thursday 7th October  2021, we hosted the first ‘Investing in Trade’ innovation showcase, spotlighting businesses focused on improving, modernising or revolutionising the trade space. The showcase hosted offered an opportunity for our members and wider investment community to enjoy a range of pitches from leading startups and scaleups in this space.

The Digitalisation of Trade: SMEs Driving Innovation

As part of this partnership, UKBAA and IOE&IT launched a new report titled The Digitalisation of Trade: SMEs Driving Innovation. The report explores how a combination of factors, including the UK’s changing trading relationships, the Covid-19 pandemic and supply chain issues, have accelerated innovation in digital trade. These factors have helped to focus the minds of many businesses and potential investors on finding better ways of trading internationally.

“Digitalisation is most often talked about in connection with trade as a transformative technology, something that will help traders to trade more efficiently, faster and compliantly. International trade is a force for good, transforming nations and communities. Digital technologies can help it do that on a fair and sustainable basis.”

Marco Forgione, Director General, IOE&IT

The 2022-23 programme

Continuing on from the success of last year, we will once again be partnering to present the Investing in TradeTech showcase.

Businesses seeking to take part in the investment showcase should be providing tech solutions that simplify and streamline the processes relating to how this country trades. We’ll be looking for businesses that offer digital management of freight or transport, trade data providers, carbon offsetting solutions, applications of blockchain or relevant LegalTech, InsurTech or FinTech.

Applications will open in January 2022 – businesses seeking to apply should be contributing to enabling the UK to remain as competitive as possible when it comes to how we trade internationally.
