The British Business Bank is a development bank, wholly owned by HM Government, which aims to ensure that finance markets for smaller UK businesses work more effectively, allowing those companies to prosper, grow and build UK economic activity. This helps to make the UK the best place in Europe to start, grow and finance a business.
Our objectives include increasing businesses’ awareness of their finance options, encouraging more private sector lending and investment, and increasing the diversity and quantity of finance. Our programmes are designed to bring benefits to smaller businesses that are start-ups, high growth, or viable but simply underfunded.
Our Regional Angels Programme is a £285m fund that helps reduce regional imbalances in access to early-stage equity finance for smaller businesses across the UK. The Programme co-invests alongside early-stage investors across the UK, and since inception, we’ve made commitments totalling £217m to 17 delivery partners, of which £116m has been invested in over 601 companies.
