Anglia Capital Group’s members support Essex-based WYSPR to disrupt the marketing industry with £375,000 of equity investment
Essex based start-up, WYSPR, pitched their exciting business to Anglia Capital Group’s angel investors on 16th March, at one of ACG’s prestigious and highly competitive investor events. Three weeks later they found themselves overfunded, having originally pitched for £275,000 and receiving offers for £375,000 bringing their total round to £450,000.
WYSPR was founded by Oliver Bourne and Eliot Wood, two business students from the University of Essex. In their final year of university and the chaos of their small flat, they set about democratizing Influencer marketing.
WYSPR is building a world where anyone can get paid to advertise and sell their data in a clean and ethical manner. They are doing this by disrupting the Influencer Marketing industry: allowing brands to use their customers to promote products or services on social media. This ultimately creates the most authentic and hyper-targeted influence possible – a digital word of mouth. They call this Friendvertising™
The company pitched, dragons-den style, to the angel investors at Anglia Capital Group in March, asking for £275,000 to accelerate their growth journey by taking on more staff and developing their technology.
“Our members were so impressed with the enthusiasm displayed by Oliver and Eliot in the pitch. They have put so much hard work into the business and the technology already. Their strategy seems sound, and our members really believe that this company could revolutionise the digital marketing industry.” Says Hannah Smith, Investment Director at Anglia Capital Group.
“WYSPR’s purpose is to connect brands to their consumers in the most authentic way possible. People are more aware of advertising than ever, communicating through genuine connections allows both a consumers and brands to benefit and build a mutually symbiotic relationship.
The investors and connections we have made through ACG are of exceptional quality and have allowed us to build what we can only describe as a ‘dream team’ of investors all from the East of England which is important to us as an Essex University spin out.
We’re so thankful for ACG’s continuing support and we’re thrilled to have our investors alongside us for our journey to come.” Says Oliver.
